Kavitha Mediratta, Board Chair of Branch4

Kavitha Mediratta currently consults for a range of racial and social justice efforts, including the Partnership for the Future of Learning. She is the founder and former executive director of the Atlantic Fellows for Racial Equity, a $63 million transnational program fostering cross-sectoral networks of leaders in the U.S. and South Africa.

As chief strategy advisor at the global Atlantic Philanthropies, she led its racial equity grantmaking and efforts to address the school-to-prison pipeline. Her career began as a K-12 classroom teacher, and she later founded programs in grassroots youth and community organizing and applied research at the Annenberg Institute for School Reform of Brown University and the Institute for Education and Social Policy at New York University.

Kavitha has received several awards for her work, including the prestigious Warren Weaver fellowship at the Rockefeller Foundation and the Aspen Institute’s non-profit research fellowship. She has taught in elementary and middle public and private schools in the U.S. and India. Kavitha has a B.A. from Amherst College, a Masters of Education from Columbia University’s Teachers College and a PhD in urban education from New York University.
